Elsie Samantha Pulsipher

(1)Elsie Samantha Pulsipher Brown first saw the light of day in Ohio. Her parents heard the Gospel in Stafford, New York, and were baptized into the church. They left their home together with the saints in Kirtland where the body of the church was located. They went west to Missouri with the Saints. Her Father died in 1841 near Illinois and her two brothers, David and Ezekiel were her Mothers only support. She had a sister Ruth older than herself.

When the Saints were forced to move again, the little family went to Nauvoo. There they were molested again and moved into the wilderness. While they were in one of the camps, the oldest (2)brother enlisted in the Mormon Battalion. The other brother, mother and the girls got a chance to let a man use their cow in his team for the privilege of bringing them across the plains. However, the Mother took sick and was unable to walk. The man became enraged when she had to ride and piled all their things by the side of the road. The Captain of the Company ordered the man to load them again but after awhile when he decided to leave the Company and go to Oregon, provision was made for them with another party and they arrived in Salt Lake about 1850, and settled in Provo.

Samantha married (3)Ebenezer Brown in May 1853, and they came to Draper to live. In the spring of 1856 her husband was called to go to Nevada to help settle the country. He took his families and settled in Wasqua Valley. Her second baby was born there, a little girl. The mission was soon abandoned and they returned to Draper.

She did the spinning and weaving for the whole family besides her household duties. She was a home woman, did not go out much, only to meetings. She was a true Latter-Day Saint, the Mother of ten children, five boys and five girls.

She died very suddenly April 1877. Aunt(4)Eunice was awakened by her Father telling her to get up and take care of her baby (5)brother as Sister Brown was very sick. She was gasping for breath and walking from one room to another. Then she threw herself on the bed and said, "Good-bye all, I am going to die." and she passed away.

Elsie’s father, Daniel is the son of David and Terzah Newton Pulsipher and nephew of Zera Pulsipher. The line of Brown’s should not be confused with the Brown line that Zera’s wife Mary Ann Brown descends.
