Maren grew up in rural Denmark working on a farn. She married Ove Christian Anderson in 1838. Their home was in Ravholt, where her husband was a forest ranger. He died of a high fever in 1848. She then married Lars Pedersen in 1851.
She was a reader of a paper called the "Millennial Star," was ready to accept the Mormon Missionaries, and was baptized on February 12, 1860.
Because of their religion they were victims of much mob violence, but could not come to America. Lars had an agreement to work on an estate. The landlord refused to release them and pay them their equity , so they were forced to wait until he died. After his death his son released them and they received enough money to bring them to Utah ($345.00 for passage, $180.00 for cargo). They also paid the passage back home for Elder Brown, of Scipio, who had baptized them. They sailed on the ship "Humbolt" then came by wagons arriving in 1862, settling in Fillmore, Utah.
In 1868, she married Levi Ward Hancock and lived in St George. Mary's name is recorded on the Leamington Ward records in 1886, but her death date is unknown.
